The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) Driver Information and Traffic Management Division (DITM) has commissioned with the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) a number of studies in which the impact of noise has been examined. This paper discusses the results from surveys carried out before and after the installation of a range of traffic calming measures on residential roads and rural trunk roads, and from trial conducted on the TRL Tests Track.
