Abstract

The Environment of Underground safety issue in the mining industry has attracted lots of research attention in recent years. It is vital to design new systems and methods to prevent dangerous incidents in the mining industry. With the development of the Internet of Things, existing work most consider to collect the data and compute them in the cloud. However, the conventional methods could cause long transmission latency as the data is transmitted to the remote end cloud servers. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) architecture for the mining industry to ensure the safety of the mining field. Notably, we propose a safety scheme to avoid the gas explosion through learning, collecting, and analysing the sensory data from the underground minefield. By adopting the well-known EdgeCloudSim simulator, the experimental results show that our proposal is a feasible solution to guarantee mining safety.
