Abstract

Isothermal recrystalli:::ation ~f Si-Mn steels with minor allo)'ing elements qfter hot rolling of 33 (~o reduction was investigated to understand the nature of stru ctural changes at high temperatures. Nucleation of new grain s was highly locali:::ed and inhomogeneous. Nucleation sites were .I:rain boundaries and twin boundaries. and some difference in general be-Iwvior was noted com/Jared to the case of 18-8 austenitic steel presumably because of the difference in stacking fault energy. Recr.ystallization proauled by migration ~f recryslallizing front. Evidences of bulge nucleation and of some movement of unreClystalli zed grain boundary were also obtained although these p rocesses may be of a minor importance in the overall reCl:Yslalli z ation.
