Two novel N,N′-bicarbazole-based porous covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs, i.e., BC-CTF and Ph-BC-CTF) were readily prepared by mild trifluoromethanesulfonic acid-catalyzed synthesis. These two CTFs have comparable surface areas and chemical constitutions with the ionothermal frameworks but feature less energy penalty and better optical properties due to the avoidance of partial carbonization at high temperatures. The two CTFs exhibit excellent CO2 adsorption capacity thanks to the presence of nitrogen-rich bicarbazole, triazine skeletons, and high surface areas. Furthermore, BC-CTF and Ph-BC-CTF serve as highly efficient heterogeneous photocatalysts for the degradation of rhodamine B and selective oxidation of thioanisoles to sulfoxides under visible light.
