Light emitting diodes are the commonly used street lighting solution nowadays. As saving energy in all aspects is the primary concern in the 21st century, researches are going on to make LED lights much energy efficient like, to make it adaptive with traffic flow and daylight intensity and some other factors. We have proposed a model using some sensors to design an adaptive and efficient lighting system with LEDs. Moreover, we have collected some real-time data for analyzing the traffic rate in three dominant type of roads in Chittagong city and found dimming time slots for the lights. Finally, we have calculated the electricity consumption cost with our model considering 10% consumption of power at dimming hours and 100% consumption at the rest of the times; which saves 88.26% of the lighting cost in comparison with conventional sodium lamps per year.
