The 2D and 3D medical imaging play a very important role in medical diagnosis to detect and isolate various pathologies. The treatment, exploitation and the interpretation of the obtained images are valuable tools to help establish a medical diagnosis. In this context, we will present in this paper an effective method for the analysis of different types of 2D and 3D medical image based on the discrete orthogonal moments of Tchebichef, Krawtchouk, Hahn, Charlier and Meixner. By this method, the 2D and 3D medical images are described by moment descriptors. The use of these moment descriptors has allowed us to significantly reduce the storage space of 2D and 3D medical images and speed up the image transfer process. The results of simulations on different medical images by the five types of moments have shown the ability of these types to improve and speed up the medical image reconstruction.
