Abstract

Abstract The gastrointestinal absorption of naturally occurring folate (pteroylpolyglutamate) and therapeutic folate (pteroylmonoglutamate) was studied in a series of pregnant subjects. No significant difference in absorption was found. Furthermore, the elevated estrogen and progesterone levels which occur during pregnancy do not inhibit absorption of pteroylpolyglutamate.
