Our findings indicate that CD169<sup>+</sup> cells promote neuroinflammation. Furthermore, they suggest that CD169<sup>+</sup> phagocytes play a key role in the pathophysiology of MS. Hence, targeting CD169<sup>+</sup> phagocytes may hold therapeutic value for MS.
