Summary A comparison was made between the hypolipidemic activities of five different marketed herbal formulations along with a prepared formulation in triton induced hyperlipidemic rats. Various parameters such as serum Cholesterol and Triglycerides were determined before 24 hours of triton administration and in two different phases (synthesis and excretory) after 24 and 48 hours respectively. HDL cholesterol was determined only in the excretory phase. There is a significant decrease in cholesterol and triglyceride levels in all the treated animals without much variation and an increase in the HDL level was seen in all the treated animals after 48 hours of triton administration in excretory phase.
