Abstract

Lately, Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) have evolved to be an important part of the Internet of Things (IoT) general framework. Recently, an evolution perspective is seen, i.e., from vehicular networks to Internet of Vehicles (IoV). On the other side it is not clear yet what management and control architecture and technologies, among the emergent ones, are best fitted to fulfill the strong IoV requirements. This paper presents a critical overview on usage of two technologies to support IoV, i.e., Software Define Network (SDN) and Edge/Fog computing. We conclude that SDN and Fog working together could be the best solution to accommodate the large variety of IoV applications, each with different requirements.
