Fully and semi-automated methods for the determination of serum iron and total iron-binding capacity.

Abstract

Abstract Fully and semi-automated methods for the determination of the total iron-binding capacity of serum with the Technicon AutoAnalyzer are described, in conjunction with an improved procedure for the automated analysis of serum iron content. An innovation is the incorporation of the Technicon Continuous Filter with resin-loaded paper to remove unbound iron in the fully automated procedure. Automation of these assays improves their precision and almost eliminates the need for preparation of iron-free glassware.
