Women presenting for evaluation of vulvar disorders represent a heterogeneous population. Among women with vulvar pain, abnormalities of the skin and pelvic floor are common and should be ruled out prior to making a diagnosis of vulvar vestibulitis or dysesthetic vulvodynia.
