Abstract

In a patient taking diphenylhydantoin, what looks like German measles could be the first evidence of a hepatotoxic reaction that is fatal in 40% of cases. In the case described, death occurred in a setting of profound toxemia rather than hepatic failure even though hepatic necrosis was striking.
