The increase of wind power output displaces conventional generation challenging therefore power system secure operation. Actually wind turbines are not asked to provide all the ancillary services that conventional generators are obliged to. The paper is aimed at studying the frequency stabili ty of a small power system, with different level of wi nd penetration, analyzing the possible contribution to system security by the provision of inertial response and primary power frequency control by wind turbines.
