SUMMARY The effect of altering the diet the week before administering an oral D-xylose absorption test was studied in 4 horses. The horses fed a high energy diet of oaten chaff, oats, and corn had a significantly ( P < 0.05) lower D-xy-lose absorption than did horses fed a low-energy alfalfa chaff diet. Factors that influence the oral D-xylose absorption test are discussed.
