Electromagnetic radiation within terahertz(THz) region has been seen as promising both in scientific research and pratical applications.Now,THz science has been regarded as one of the most important science and technology issues in this century.Besides owning rich uncultivated scientific research areas itself,THz technology also provides an efficient and powerful probe for other research domains.This paper introduces the history of the THz technology,as well as related development of this field at home and aboard,briefly lists the unique characteristics of THz radiation and describes its new progress in the field of basic research and applied research in detail.
