Abstract

Accidents of bird impact are a type of accidents happend in aviation. The serious failures of the engine such as damage or shut down may be brought on, when the birds impact the first stage fan or compressor blades. To analyze the response of the first stage fan or compressor blades impacted by birds, a sliced model for bird impacting blades must be firstly determined. A sliced model for a bird simulated by ellipsoid impacting blades is presented. The formula for calculating dimensions and masses of the largest slice are given. The dimensions and the masses of the largest slice for ellipsoidal simulated birds of three different masses are computed and compared with those of cylinder-simulated birds.
