Abstract

Objective:To summarize the experience in laparoscopic-assisted colorectal surgery. Methods:A retrospective study was done to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic-assisted colorectal surgery in our department from Jan.2003 to Oct.2007.154 cases with intact clinical data, were divided into early group(62 cases, from 2003 to 2005) and late group(92 cases, from 2006 to 2007),and all the lesions were located up the peritoneal reflection. The basic preoperative variables, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, lymph node harvests and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. The reasons for convertion to open procedure were also analyzed. Results:The basic variables were similar between the two groups.Less intraoperative blood loss and short postoperative hospitalization were found in late group. The morbidity was also comparable between the two groups. The total morbidity and mortality rate were 10.53%,1.30% respectively.Only two cases were converted to open surgery because of obesity and advanced tumor.Conclusions:Laparoscopic-assisted colorectal surgery is a safe and feasible surgical procedure.
