The experiment in pot was carried out with Shanyou 63( indica type hybrid rice) and Wuyujing 3( japanica ). Effects of N-fertilizer application after transplantation on the main quality characters and RVA profile parameters of rice were studied. The results were as follow: effects of N-fertilizer on head milled rice and protein content were improved with the application increase; effect of N-fertilizer on chalkniss varied in different cultivars; gel consistency became softer with the amount increasing of N-fertilizer; alkali spreading value and amylose content were insensitive to the fertilizer. Effects of N-fertilizer on RVA profile parameters varied significantly in two cultivars. There was a conic relationship between peak viscosity and amount of N-fertilizer. Comparing with Wuyujing 3, Shanyou 63 needed less N-fertilizer to reach the tiptop of the peak viscosity. Furthermore, effect of N-fertilizer on breakdown in Shanyou 63 was more obvious than that in Wuyujing 3.
