ABSTRACT Several authors have measured the heart rate of the chick embryo, but in all cases their methods involved opening the egg. The effect of this procedure on the heart rate is unknown, and therefore the writer investigated the possibility of recording the electrical variation of the embryo heart and thus obtaining a record of the heart rate with the minimum of interference with the embryo.
