The paper has been inspired by the need to find an efficient method for QRS detection which is simple and has good accuracy and less computation time. Our heart acts as the representative of the physiological changes of our body. Electrocardiography (ECG) is the electrical signature of the heart and thus one of the important indicators of our pathological condition. In this paper the Discrete Wavelet Transform is used to detect QRS complex. The DWT approach is found to be better and more accurate than the other common methods when evaluated on MIT/BIH ECG database and the database borrowed from NIT Jalandhar.
