The final products of viral DNA replication are mature viral chromosomes. Any consideration of the intracellular replicating forms of viral DNA molecules should take proper account of the structure of the final product. Therefore, this paper will begin with a brief review of what is now known about the structure of mature viral DNA molecules. From this it will be clear why we have studied the intracellular forms of T7 and P22.
