An infusion-perfusion method has been devised for rat submaxillary gland which permits replacement by modified Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate solution of at least 30% of the blood supply to the gland. Glands maintained by this procedure for periods of 30 to 60 minutes secrete saliva of normal Na, K composition and show no significant change in tissue Na, K or total water, or in histological appearance.
