Production of Aldosterone by Rat Adrenal Glands in vitro.

Abstract

ConclusionRat adrenal glands incubated in vitro released a sodium-retaining substance with the properties of aldosterone. Purified growth hormone does not seem to increase secretion of sodium-retaining activity. Two ACTH preparations caused a slight but significant increase of aldosterone production in vitro. Alteration of the Na/K ratio of the incubation media, by lowering the Na and increasing the K concentration, produces a moderate enhancement of aldosterone secretion.
