SummaryA new procedure is described for the electron microscopy of small objects. This technique, illustrated by photographs of purified influenza and tobacco mosaic viruses, involves the oblique evaporation of a thin film of metal over the preparation before micrography. The three-dimensional effect it produces gives new information about the heights and shapes of objects seen in the preparation.
