A group of seventeen amino acids and ten peptides has been analyzed by a combined pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry system. Identification of a unique pyrolysis product for each amino acid suggests a new method of qualitative analysis for peptides and proteins. Sequence information is probable.
