Rising Incidence of Hypothyroidism after Radioactive-Iodine Therapy in Thyrotoxicosis

Abstract

HYPOTHYROIDISM is a rare late complication of Graves's disease. A committee of the Clinical Society of London in 18881 noted that "in a few cases the appearance of the symptoms of myxoedema has been preceded by exophthalmic goiter, the evidence on this point appearing to be pretty clear" and went on to recommend that "in this aspect all cases of exophthalmic goiter ought to be followed with much care."
