The Journal of Animal Genetics (2010) 38, 41-48 country is relatively small (374,029); however, in the past 8 years, it has increased markedly at a rate of 22.74% per annum, especially in the central (42.12%) and Northeast (36.87%) parts of the country (Table Goats are predominantly raised by smallholders, particularly those in the Muslim community for religious and ritual slaughter.
