The acute effect of cigarette smoke in living rabbits, inhaled in puffs which were proportional to those of man on the initial course of lung clearance, is studied by registering the elimination of an inhaled radioactive chromium (51Cr)-tagged test aerosol composed of 7μ polystyrene particles. The result shows a significant decrease in this lung function in comparison with a control group.
