It is shown that although the electron capture detector is a concentration sensitive detector like the catharometer, its response factors depend on the flow-rate in a complex manner. Accordingly the flow-rate through the detector must be optimized with the help of a scavenger flow to obtain maximum sensitivity as well as optimum stability of the analytical results.
