Simplified equation for relaxation of a proton from a rapidly rotating CHXY group and application to nuclear Overhauser measurements

The usual equation for 1H-1H dipolar relaxation of a proton from a rapidly rotating CHXY group is simplified, thus eliminating the dependence upon the varying interaction distance and the correlation time for internal motion. The final expression depends only upon two uniquely definable distances and the correlation time for overall molecular tumbling. The use of this equation for determining interproton distances by nuclear Overhauser measurements is described.
