Abstract

Summary2-deoxyglucose rapidly enters the cells of the extrahepatic tissues in the absence of insulin. Insulin appears to accelerate the intracellular transfer. The intracellular transfer of 2-deoxyglucose inhibits the transfer and oxidation rates of glucose, thus acting as a metabolic block for glucose. It is suggested that the blocking of glucose may take place at the 6-phosphate stage.
