postsecondary education-the bearers of the tax burden are less willing to tolerate public advantages given upper-class whims that are concealed in university cloisters and intimidating art museums. And the predilections of an underclass need not necessarily remain the same as its members rise to loftier stations in society. Presumably, it is poor beginnings that aesthetic education might be expected to overcome.
