Abstract

The secondary recovery process is a manner to produce oilfrom a porous medium, by displacing it with a second fluid (usually water) If the second fluid is less viscous, then the well-known Safjman-Taylor instability appears, producing the "fingering" phenomenon An intermediate rgion with variable viscosity p, containing a polymer mixed with water can be considered between water and o A Sturm-Liouville problem is obtained from the study of the hnear stability of the straight initial interfaces between mixture and oil The eigenvalues of this System are the growth constants a (in time) of the perturbations and may be controlled by fi The surface tension due to the mixture water-polymer gives us a maximum value of a in terms of the wave numbers of the perturbations In this paper, the maximum value of a is mimmized, by giving an exphcit upper boundfor a "minimizing" viscosity of the mixture water-polymer and also a lower bound for the "optimal" length of the intermediate rgion (injection length) This bounds are obtained in terms of the jump of the viscosity on the interface with the oil In this way, an improvement of the stability is obtained Elsevier, Paris Rsum -La rcupration assiste est une technique permettant d'obtenir le ptrole contenu dans un milieu poreux Elle s'applique en dplaant le ptrole a l'aide d'un autre fluide (usuellement de l'eau) Si le deuxime fluide a une viscosit plus petite que celle du ptrole, on a alors le phnomne bien connu de digitation mis en vidence par Saffman et Taylor On considre, entre l'eau et ptrole, une rgion intermdiaire avec une viscosit variable ju, qui contient un mlange eau-polymre La viscosit JU de ce mlange est croissante de l'eau vers le ptrole On tudie la stabilit de l'interface ainsi obtenue entre le mlange et le ptrole Les valeurs propres du problme de Sturm-Liouville ainsi obtenu sont les constantes d'augmentation a (en temps) des perturbations , il est possible de contrler ces valeurs propres l'aide de la viscosit fi La tension superficielle produite par le mlange nous donne une valeur maximale de a, comme fonction du nombre d'onde des perturbations Dans ce travail, on obtient la viscosit n du mlange qui minimise la valeur maximale de G On a ainsi la viscosit qui minimise le phnomne de digitation et amliore trs nettement la technique de rcupration assiste On obtient aussi l'expression exacte de la borne suprieure de la viscosit minimisante et une borne infrieure pour la longueur optimale de la rgion occupe par le mlange (longueur d'injection) Ces bornes sont fonctions du saut de la viscosit sur l'interface avec le ptrole On a ainsi une amlioration de la stabilit Elsevier, Pans *
