Radiation intensities measured with Geiger tubes carried by artificial earth satellites 1958 alpha and 1958 gamma are reported. Reasonable counting rates for altitudes less than 1000 km and very high rates at more than 1100 km were obtained. The high rates are believed to be closely related to soft radiation'' previously detected during rocket flights in the auroral zone. (L.N.N.)
