Past methods for calculating and locating abnormally pressured formations usually were applicable only in areas for which they were derived, but a new technique described here should be useful throughout the world. Equations are derived empirically and take into account variations in overburden pressure between geographical locations. The use of equations to develop a graphical method of determining geopressure magnitudes from well log or seismic data is described.
