Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">The combining of the output of a diesel engine with that of an exhaust gas driven turbine is becoming increasingly attractive in the drive for improved fuel economy.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper reviews the history of such engines and examines the benefits that may be expected from engines of this type.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">The turbomachinery design process is described which will produce a turbocompounded, wide speed range, heavy duty truck engine, with fuel consumption savings at all speeds.</div>
