This large textbook was designed for the undergraduate medical student and represents another effort to merge and integrate the teaching of obstetrics and gynecology. Such mergers have been attempted previously and, on the whole, have had rather limited success either because the extensive treatment required multiple volumes issued at great cost or because the merger was merely an expanded set of teaching outlines too elementary for anything beyond a rather introductory course. Huffman obviously has tried to strike a happy medium in this regard, but in spite of the best intentions has turned out a volume that may prove too massive for the undergraduate, too elementary for the resident, and too deficient in therapeutic detail to suit the practitioner.
