Abstract A procedure for the collection, homogenization, sampling, and disposal of feces is presented. It is convenient for the patient, inoffensive in the laboratory, relatively inexpensive, and permits the use of disposable containers. The materials added need not interfere with the performance of a wide range of chemical and radioisotopic analyses. In addition, a modification of the van de Kamer and associates' method for fecal fatty acids, which is effective in the recovery of hydroxy acids, is proposed. Experimental results to demonstrate the reliability of the procedures are given.
