Rats, mice, and hamsters were exposed to O/sub 3/ generated from various sources of air. No effect of air source was observed. Sensitivity to O/sub 3/ was as follows: mice > rats > hamsters. LD/sub 50/, 24 h for 4-h exposure was 2.4 to 12.6 ppM extremes for rats, 1.2 to 13.1 ppM for mice, and 9.1 to 12.1 ppM for hamsters. These varied with temperature. Rats and mice surviving a 4-h exposure to 2.3 or 7 ppM, respectively, were tolerant to an otherwise lethal dose given as much as 2 weeks later. Above concentration values should be increased by 1.5 to correct for an inaccurate analytical procedure.
