mone. An increase in serum protein-bound iodine in humans due to the administration of iodide has been described by Danowski, Johnston & Greenman (1950). By extracting with butanol, Man et al. (1951) have been able to separate the proteinbound iodine fraction, which presumably represents hormone from the unknown protein-bound iodine compoundand which appears during the administration of inorganic iodine. In future studies of the distribution of exogenous hormone in tissues it would probably be advisable to employ butanol extraction as an integral part of the method. SUMMAlRY 1. A method for the determination of proteinbound iodine in extrathyroidal tissues is described. Data regarding the limits of error of the method are given.
