Secondary hypertension is responsible for 5–10% ofcauses ofhypertension in the general population [1,2].Itisrarelypossibletoreverse/cure secondaryhyperten-sion, but ifthe patient is relatively young, and thecausation ofthe raised blood pressure is diagnosedearly enough a cure can be effected. This is mosttypically after renal arterial intervention for fibromus-cular dysplasia, or after removal of an endocrinologi-cally active tumour. We describe three cases ofa rare cause ofsecondaryhypertension (sometimes as here with acute renalfailure), the ‘Page kidney’, where there is sustainedrenal parenchymal compression leading to ischaemiaand activation ofthe renin–angiotensin–aldosteronesystems. We then discuss the definition and patho-physiology ofthe ‘Page kidney’ phenomenon [3]. Inaddition, we include a mini-review ofthe literatureregarding the reported causes, diagnostic tests andtreatment.
