Fact! That is the answer to the question posed in the title. Over 40 years passed before the synthesis of bismuthine (BiH3; see picture) by Amberger was confirmed successfully. High-resolution IR and millimeter-wave spectroscopy as well as ab initio calculations now provide a detailed picture of the molecular structure of this compound.
