A method for the dynamic measurement of electrostrictive and electrooptical effects basing on the principle of a Michelson interferometer has been developed. Changes of optical pathways as small as 0.1 Å can be determined with good accuracy. The linear electrostrictive and the linear electrooptical tensors of tincalconite, Na 2 B 4 O 5 (OH) 4 · 3 H 2 O have been measured.
