A correlation was found between the saturation of silicon content of /spl alpha/-Fe nanocrystals and the improvement of soft magnetic properties (initial permeability, /spl musub 1/ and power loss, P) as a function of annealing time at about 550/spl deg/C annealing temperature. The partially crystallised FINEMET has a /spl musub 1/ comparable to and a P characteristic much better than those of the Co-based zero-magnetostrictive VAC-6025F amorphous alloy.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
