Abstract The authors first tested a Spanish adaptation of a series of assessment instruments concerning a distorted body image, more specifically related to Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Subsequently a controlled treatment study was carried out in young females with a serious body dissatisfaction (11 experimental subjects, 6 waiting list controls). A standardized cognitive-behavioral program, applied in small groups, was shown to induce significant improvements in both body image and psychological adjustment measures.
