This paper presents a promising signal processing technique using a multi-resolution morphological gradient (MMG) method to efficiently extract transient sequences and accurately detect fault locations in a transmission line system. Based upon this methodology, MMG based single-ended transient fault locators are developed. The simulation results show that the accuracy of the fault locators has been considerably improved.
