Abstract

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a rare disease of unknown aetiology first identified in the renal artery, where it is most commonly located. It is increasingly being recognized in other sites and an extensive literature review by Mettinger (1982) suggested that the iliac artery is the third most common site of fibromuscular dysplasia after the renal and carotid arteries. The following report documents the case of a patient with fibromuscular dysplasia of the external iliac artery treated by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty.
