Abstract

Two templates are better than one! By combining the already known soft-template and sacrificial-template synthetic methodologies, hollow nanostructures of various shapes and materials can be designed without the need for complicated processes such as chemical etching or calcination. Here, CdS nanotubes are prepared from Cd(OH)Cl nanorods and thioacetamide, using biodegradable gelatin as the soft template (see HRTEM image).
