Measurements of Eh in the sediment of a Danish Lobelia lake have shown that the upper 20 cm of the sediment is oxidized down to a water depth of 4 m. This is correlated with the distribution of rooted plants in the lake. Hence, the plants, species of Littorella, Isoëtes, and Lobelia, work as oxygen pumps.
